You will have the chance to learn how to drive a diesel train thanks to the help of a qualified and experienced driver. Of course, you will have the opportunity to take to the controls and drive the train all by yourself. The ride promises to be unforgettable from your exclusive point of view.

The landscape around you will also add beauty to the experience, since you will be driving your train in the Derbyshire's Gentle Valley. You will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful hills, forests and rivers of this green countryside.

Even if you are not a train enthusiast, you don’t want to miss this amazing opportunity to discover the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway and its marvels in this symbolic and gentle transportation. On arrival meet your instructor who will give you a short introductory talk.
Your morning session will be spent learning the workings of the train.
During the afternoon you will then take the controls and drive the train along part of the track.
Take part in the final checks and then help to put the train away for the night.
Lunch in the buffet car will is included.
This experience is held as part of a group.
Spectators are not permitted.

Notes and Restrictions

Voucher valid for 10 months for 1 person.
Experience runs on selected weekdays only.
Maximum group size is 4.
Minimum age 18 years.
Participants must be reasonably fit and healthy.
Sturdy footwear should be worn.
No alcohol should be consumed on the same day as the experience.
Participants will be part of a group no bigger than 4 people.

"Diesel Experience"

A truly memorable experience. We were met by welcoming and enthusiastic tutors who introduced the three participants to the locomotives and the workings of the railway. The morning was spent shunting with a smaller diesel and after lunch we embarked on the drive along the new 12 mile stretch with a full train of goods wagons and materials for work to be done down the line. This was a fully hands on experience which exceeded my expectations.
