If you have ever wondered what ‘Chukkas’ or ‘handsticks’ are this day of polo playing will provide you with the answers. You’ll learn basic horse riding techniques and how to swing the stick along with a history lesson on a sport that has lasted 2,500 years! You’ll gain in confidence and learn new skills in this fantastic day of polo

 

What Your Experience Includes
Hooking, Handsticks, Chukkas, Riding Off. By the end of this polo day you’ll be completely familiar with all these words. This competitive equestrian sport is taught by fully qualified instructors who are well versed in polo’s 2,500 year history and modern day techniques. You’ll be tutored on the rules, tactics and pony control in this beginners day of polo playing. By the end you’ll be swinging your stick with the best of them. Enjoy a sport with diehard fans all over the world.

On arrival the group is served tea or coffee and meet the coach. You then receive a full briefing and are divided into groups based on your ability. Any questions are welcomed and the game is played in an open and relaxed atmosphere. Some light warm-up exercises precede the riding lessons either on a wooden pony for beginners or a polo pony for the more experienced. By the end of the morning, all players will be riding a polo pony, practising with the stick and riding at the same time! Following a delicious lunch you return to the saddle to learn the polo shots needed to win the game. Riding off and hooking are two of the techniques covered. After covering basic rules and tactics your group of players get into your saddles and begin a small polo tournament with prizes awarded for the winning side!

• Minimum age: 8 (Under 18’s must have parental consent)
• Maximum weight: 16 stone (101 kgs)
• Previous horse riding experience is not essential, but you must be reasonably fit and active. If you have any disability or illness that may prevent you from taking part in the experience you must discuss this with the centre before booking.
• The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary according to venue.
