A Day with Shire Horses - £129

A full day in the company of these magnificent shire horses is a unique and fun-packed experience. You will learn about the horses themselves, traditional care methods, how to plait their mane and take a ride in a carriage with them! A great gift for anyone who appreciates these beautiful animals.

 

What Your Experience Includes
Not so far in the past the shire horse was responsible for making the wheels of British industry turn. The horses worked in fields and towns, on canal towpaths, on docks and quays, for railways and mills. You can now take a journey back to this era and learn all about these amazing horses up close and personal.

You will be greeted on arrival and offered refreshments. You will then be briefed on your day. Then you’ll learn stable management, harness cleaning and horse grooming. The very experienced staff love sharing their knowledge of this wonderful breed of horse and answering any questions you may have. You will also learn the traditional method of plaiting a shire horse. After this you will travel by horse and carriage across country lanes to a local pub for a hearty lunch. The carriage will wait for you and then return you to the farm and the animal’s home. You will then help un-harness and groom the shire horses before giving them their feed for the night and bedding them down.

• Dress Code - Please where comfortable hard wearing outdoor clothing suitable for the time of year, including waterproofs if necessary, and sensible sturdy boots.

• Unfortunately this experience is not suitable for spectators.
