Buyers Guide to Horse Experience Days
If you’re looking for a present for someone who loves horses we have some great options. Your choices are relatively simple and boil down to:-
- Western style riding days.
- Horse riding lessons.
- Learning to ride and/or learn to play polo.
Almost all our horse riding experiences take place in the New Forest in Hampshire and we have various different days at different prices which we’ll run through in a moment.
The notable exception is the Learn to Play Polo experience which involves learning to ride a horse or improving your riding skills, and learning the sport of Polo. The course is suitable for beginners and experienced riders alike and regardless of your level, they aim for everyone to be riding a polo pony and swinging a stick by lunch time! You’ll learn the rules and tactics of polo and will no doubt come away exhilarated and aching like crazy.
If you’re looking for a pure horse riding experience though, the New Forest is the place to go. It’s the ideal setting for a range of different days out on horseback. There’s introductory riding trips where beginners or riders with some experience can trek through the national park and cowboy experiences which include lessons in lassoing, a ranch style BBQ and no doubt lots of yeehaa’ing as well.
The full day western/cowboy trip is a great treat for someone who really wants to spend a day with horses, looking after them, riding them and getting immersed in the wild west lifestyle. From the start of the day when you chow down on your cowhand breakfast to the chicken and steak lunch and mug of coffee at the end of the day, you and your fellow cowboys and cowgirls are guaranteed a rootin’ tootin’ time!
Prices
Pricing of our horse experience days is quite simple. Horse riding experiences for kids start at under £50 and move onto to slightly more for a beginners or introductory half day experience lasting around 1 or 2 hours.
Full days (riding or learning to play polo) range from just over £100 to just under £200. Generally, the more you pay the longer you get and the more involving the experience will be. A riding lesson may last around 2 hours with most of that in the saddle whereas a cowboy experience may last around 6 hours and will involve meals and looking after your horse as well as riding.
Restrictions
As with all our experiences, restrictions vary from experience to experience so please check the full description on our website to ensure you or the person you are buying for meets the criteria but, as a general guide, for horse riding experiences there’s usually a minimum age of anything from 9 years to 12 years old. There’s always a weight limit which is generally 14 or 15 stone.
Our Verdict
Anyone who loves horses will love these experiences. For anyone looking for a fun day out the Western Adventure Day has to be the one and the polo experience is the choice for the more ambitious learner or accomplished rider looking for more of a challenge.
