Guide to Bungee Jumping Days
Bored with the norm? Need to try something different and exciting? Like to take risks? Feeling energetic? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this could be the thrill you are looking for. A sudden rush of adrenaline and a feeling of euphoria are guaranteed on a bungee jumping day, and the experience could be just the ticket to blow off those cobwebs. It's not just a case of being tied to a rope and jumping solo off a bridge anymore; there are a number of different packages available starting from under £100. Feel your heart race, as the time for your jump gets nearer, and then the real fun arrives - you're being strapped to the rope - and then….
With prices starting from under £100, the experience needn't cost the earth, even if it feels that the earth is moving towards you. Jump alone from differing heights, or share the experience with someone else who loves the sheer rush of adrenaline. If you're particularly mad, why not jump backwards! Check the current prices when ordering your thrill.
Where you can feel the rush
Bungee jumps are available in a number of locations throughout the UK. Check individual jumps for locations.
There are a number of different options available, which include single bungee jumps from different heights, as well as tandem jumps for people who want to share their amazing experience with a loved one.
The original bungee jump involves jumping into midair from a height of 160 feet. If that sounds a little tame for you then how about a 300 feet jump with nothing but the sky around you and the ground zooming towards you? These packages are available across the UK in many areas including Scotland, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands.
Jumping 200ft from a bridge in Middlesbrough may not sound like fun, but the sight of the River Tees hurtling towards you, or to be more specific, you hurtling towards the River Tees, provides the more experienced jumper with a thrill that a simple jump no longer achieves. Feel the wind blowing through your hair and then, just as you think you're about to get wet, up you go again and the release of adrenaline hits you.
Not content with just a jump? Then how about combining it with an abseil, a parachute descent and a slide down a 250ft zip wire? The Awesome Foursome is the choice for the real thrill seekers. All four of these activities in one day will ensure that you are pushed to the limit and that your senses are heightened to the max! This package is available in Sheffield.
For those of you who don't want to be alone when you jump, either because you are a little wary or simply because you'd like to share the experience, the Tandem Leap bungee jump is ideal. You'll be strapped together and then you can share the leap into the unknown from a height of 170 feet. Or if you want something different to do on that romantic occasion, why not jump with a loved one? It will certainly get the sparks flying, in a way you never thought possible. These jumps are available in Scotland, Teesside, and other locations in the UK. Prices start from under £150. Share the cost, the anticipation and the experience.
Bored with a simple forward jump? Think twice about this one because you'll be jumping twice. Firstly, a normal forward leap from a staggering height; just as you calm down, it's time to jump again but this time you'll be jumping backwards. The biggest thrill of all is not knowing what is coming and with the backwards jump the tension and excitement may be too much to bear. Try it if you dare - the FaB Bungee Jumps, prices from under £150, and availability throughout the UK.
Which one should you try?
It all depends on how much of a thrill you want. If you're a beginner then a simple bungee jump might be best to start with. For the more experienced jumper the Forwards and Backwards Jump, or the Awesome Foursome might be more up your street. Whichever you choose, you're guaranteed to have an experience that you'll never forget. The feeling of euphoria after the jump is as powerful as the feeling of trepidation leading up to the jump.
There are a number of restrictions in place as to who can participate in the bungee jumping days:
- You need to be over the age of 16 to jump without permission, or if you are aged between 14 and 16 you need to have parental consent to jump
- If you are over 50 a doctor's certificate is needed before jumping
- People advised not to partake in any of the activities are those who are suffering from dizziness, high blood pressure, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, heart conditions, or pregnant women
- People with damage to their back, ankles, neck or eyes are advised to seek medical advice before partaking in any of the activities
- The maximum weight of a participant is 120kg
What happens prior to the jump?
There is always a short briefing from an instructor. Participants are also weighed to make sure they don't exceed the 120kg maximum weight limit. You are then strapped in using shock cord that has been braided and covered, and a body harness. The only other thing that will happen is a mixture of excitement and fear.
What about after the jump?
After the jump you may find yourself breathing quite heavily and smiling. This is perfectly normal, as your body will have reached a peak of euphoria. The events will play in your head again and again, and you'll want to do it all over again. Bungee jumping is recommended for those who want that rush of pure adrenaline through their body.
