Buyer’s Guide to Aston Martin Driving Days
If you’re considering taking one of the most beautiful supercars out there for a spin, our buyer’s guide will help you narrow down your options to select the ultimate Aston Martin experience.
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
Originally produced between 1977 and 1989, this was widely known as Britain’s first supercar. Driving in one of these cars is like driving in a piece of British history. In 2005 Aston Martin introduced a new V8 Vantage, which is the car featured in most of our driving experiences, capable of 0-60mph in a loin-girdling 4.7 seconds.
Bond appearance: The Living Daylights, starring Timothy Dalton
Aston Martin DBS
The DBS was produced between 1967 and 1972 and was one of the best and most popular cars of its day. This classic car has seen something of a resurgence recently, as a new DBS (DBS V12) began production in 2007, hoping to emulate the success of its predecessor.
Bond appearance: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, starring George Lazenby.
Aston Martin DB9
The coolest car on Top Gear’s ‘Cool Wall’ (until the Vantage sneaked in there too), the DB9 began production in 2004 until 2011. The car boasts a 5.9-litre V12 engine, allowing it to reach speeds of 190mph. Offering slightly more civilised handling than its smaller sister, the Vantage, the DB9 is the iconic Aston that everyone asks for.
While no Aston Martin experience can be described as typical, a standard session comprises of:
- Introductory Briefing:
Everything you need before taking the wheel: a run through of what you’ll get up to during the day, extensive safety tips and an insight into driving theory.
- Demonstration Laps:
An expert instructor will take you for an exciting blast around the track to show you exactly how to do it. Watch him closely but not too closely or he’ll think you’re weird.
- Your Turn:
The moment you’ve been waiting for; getting to drive the Aston Martin you hand-picked.
If you get out of the car and see two Astons waiting for you, it’s not double vision, you might be moving onto the next vehicles of the day if you chose a Triple Aston Martin Thrill. You could also move onto another type of supercar altogether on selected experiences.
Family and friends don’t have to stand in the cold, unless you want them to? Just saying. Venues are well equipped with undercover places, toilets and refreshments, some even provide a bit of entertainment in the form of a free 4x4 passenger ride.
Aston Martin experiences are available in Rockingham (Northamptonshire), Lincolnshire, and at the Three Sisters (Lancashire). Other centres running the track days include Brands Hatch in Kent, Bedford Autodrome and Oulton Park (Cheshire).
The largest experiences, featuring the biggest variety of Aston Martins, take place at the best known tracks, including Silverstone, Donington and Goodwood. These cars can also be driven at test tracks and airfields across the UK giving everyone the chance to climb into an Aston Martin.
As ever, the car you drive, the time you spend on the track, and the location you visit will determine the price. Check out the examples below to help you decide what you want, or what might be worth a great deal to someone else.
Children aren’t often under budget, but they can drive an Aston for just £69 on the Junior Aston Martin Driving Experience.
Drive 6 miles round the track on our Aston Martin Driving Thrill (Weekdays) for £89 on weekdays only.
Or up the ante and put 2 supercar gladiators to the test in an Aston Martin vs Ferrari Driving at Silverstone experience priced at £189.
Finally, what could be better? For £295 The Ultimate Triple Aston Martin Driving Thrill offers unto you all 3 of our Aston beasties. Take them out then be taken out yourself in a high speed passenger ride.
Penned with TLC, the restrictions are worthy of consideration as they may affect which experiences you can take part in.
Height and weight limits are all about getting you into the vehicles comfortably. For example, for safety reasons some of the cars have bucket seats that can only be adjusted by small degrees. These restrictions differ between venues so check carefully before booking by clicking on the Key Info tab when viewing an experience.
Most venues will require the driver to be over 21 and possess a full and relatively clean UK driving license held for several years, but check the details for each experience, some are more flexible.
Overseas driving licence? If you can legally drive a manual car on UK roads this is acceptable.
Under 17? Junior drivers are catered for at several venues, just check out our Junior Driving section for more details.
