Sheepdog Training Day - £109

This day with fantastic border collies will teach you first hand about a partnership between one man and his dog that has existed for centuries. You will discover the techniques of sheep herding with the collies out in the beautiful countryside of West Yorkshire. It’ll be a day you’ll never forget!

 

What Your Experience Includes
Go back to basics and work with nature on this farm-based sheep herding experience. Experience the bond between man and dog as you discover the special skills developed by shepherds. This breed of dog has the ability to communicate to its human partner in a unique way. The collies are also a lot of fun to be around. You will work in partnership with the dog in harmony and discover what is possible when you do! The skill takes time to learn but you will become more confident in the basics of this language so you’ll be able to talk to your border collie partner and also listen to what it is saying to you. You’ll also learn about the sheep and your part in the game.

Arrive at 10.30am. A couple of hours are spent working with the dogs, probably as part of a group. After an hour’s break for lunch you will spend two more hours working with the dogs and sheep.

• Expert tuition provided by Barbara Sykes, an experienced shepherdess, farmer and dog trainer who represented her country in International Sheep Dog Trials.
• Allow up to 5 hours for your experience depending on numbers taking part.

• The experience is available Monday to Friday.
• No minimum or maximum height and weight restrictions.
• Minimum age is 16 and under 18’s need parent or guardian consent.
• Please note that meals are not included, but there is a public house nearby.
• You should be in reasonable health and have a reasonable level of fitness.
• The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary.
